In this 1-hour visual and costumed presentation, Lianne Harris (History & Culture Resource Specialist–T.D.S.B. & Upper Canada College) will reveal the truths about the early Scandinavian colonization of the Western world and dispel the myths that still cling to our understanding of these tenacious people. Insight will prove that their exploration, practices, industry, and artistic achievements are still being felt today – in ways we have not given credit to them. Unfairly called The Dark Ages, from an early medieval age, these Germanic and Viking cultures were laying down the groundwork that would become our modern attitudes, opinions and laws. Ranging from North Africa, to the heart of Muscovy, to the Middle East, the Vikings, with their distinctive warrior leadership, ranged far and wide.
